Since starting their own nonprofit ‘One More Generation’ (OMG) back in 2009, Olivia and Carter have been very busy trying to make a difference. When they first realized that so many animals around the world were at risk of becoming extinct, they knew that had to act. They started OMG to help save endangered species for at least One More Generation… and beyond. Shortly after starting OMG the BP Gulf oil spill happened and the two sprang to action. They spent four months collecting badly needed animal rescue supplies and then drove 11.5 hours down to the Gulf where they spent five days delivering the supplies and working with the Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Center. It was there that they learned about the issue of plastic pollution and realized that they also needed to help clean up the environment if they are ever going to also save the animals.
They have since authored an award winning Plastic and Recycling Awareness Curriculum which matches the latest National and State Standards for science. The program targets K-6 graders and teaches them how to be the solution to the issue of plastic pollution. They also speak at conferences around the country on environmental issues as Ocean Acidification and the need for all communities to switch to more renewable energy options.
Since starting OMG, the two have created three divisions within their organization. The first being their Animal Conservation Division. The second being their Environmental Conservation Division and their third being their Youth Empowerment Division which helps students find ways to ‘give back’ in their local communities and to help those that are less fortunate.
Olivia and Carter are passionate about wanting to make a difference in the world and they also want to show kids around the world that “Anybody can make a difference… if we can, you can too“. Their efforts demonstrate that anything is possible and more importantly that with education, we can solve virtually every problem.
Olivia and Carter are inspired by learning from the actions of some amazing leaders in the world including Dr. Jane Goodall, Sir Richard Branson, former President Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, and Dr. Sylvia Earle. They strive to also be an inspiration for their peers around the world and to show everyone that we all need to get involved in something.
Anyone interested in getting involved in the work of One More Generation should look at their website and at their newly launched OMG Membership Program. We encourage kids around the world to join and get involved in the many initiatives Olivia and Carter have created around the world.
